Practice Modes
Characters
Practice individual letters, numbers, and punctuation. Customize which characters are included in your practice sessions.
Koch Method
A proven method for learning Morse code. Start with just two characters (K and M) and progressively unlock more as you reach the accuracy threshold. The app tracks your performance and will automatically introduce new characters when you're ready. A smart algorithm will ensure that you get to practice new and weaker characters without forgetting the once you have already learned.
Callsigns
Practice copying amateur radio callsigns. Type the full callsign and press Submit. Great for preparing for on-air contacts. Supports US callsigns (all 6 formats) and 12 international countries.
Words (PRO)
Practice copying words from the 3 built-in wordlists: common words, radio terms, and US state abbreviations. You can also load or create your own lists by adding simple text files with one word per line.
Text Player
Enter or paste any text and play it as Morse code. Great for practicing copy of longer messages, QSO snippets, or any custom content. Adjust speed and tone in General settings. The text player includes a feature to auto-generate simple QSOs or, with the PRO version, more complex exchanges including POTA, SOTA, and contests.
Reference
Browse all letters, numbers, punctuation, and some of the most common prosigns - tap any to hear its sound. Useful for quick reference or self-directed study.
Speed Settings
Character Speed (WPM)
How fast individual characters are sent. Higher values mean shorter dits and dahs. Range: 5-25 WPM or with PRO all the way up to 60 WPM!.
Effective Speed (Farnsworth)
The overall speed, including gaps between characters. Setting this lower than character speed adds extra spacing, making it easier to recognize characters while still hearing them at full speed.
Koch Method Settings
Auto-Unlock
When enabled, new characters are automatically unlocked when you meet the accuracy threshold for all current characters. You can also disable and manually introduce new characters when you feel ready.
Accuracy Threshold
The minimum accuracy required to unlock new characters (default 90%). Range: 70-100%.
Min Attempts
How many recent attempts are used to calculate accuracy (default 10). More attempts give a more reliable measure, but it will take longer to qualify. Range: 10-50.
Character Order
Choose between Koch (G4FON) order, LCWO order. With the PRO-version you can create your own custom sequence.
Audio Settings
Sidetone Frequency
The pitch of the Morse code tone in Hz. Typical values are 500-800 Hz. Choose what's comfortable for your ears. Range: 300-1000 Hz.
Volume
Controls the app's audio volume. This works together with your device's media volume.
Auto-Repeat
Automatically replay the character multiple times before you answer. Useful for training your ear to identify characters more reliably. Range: 1-5 repeats.
Playback Options
Auto-Advance
Automatically play the next character after a correct answer. Keeps practice flowing without extra button presses.
Auto-Replay on Wrong
Replay the character after an incorrect answer so you can reinforce the correct association.
Statistics
Tap the stats card at the top of the screen to see detailed statistics. Click individual characters for more detailed per-character accuracy with color coding:
- Green: 90%+ accuracy
- Yellow: 80-89% accuracy
- Red: 70-79% accuracy
- Gray: Below 70% or no attempts
Tips for Learning
- Practice regularly - Short daily sessions work better than long infrequent ones.
- Focus on instant recognition - Rather than counting dits and dahs, learn to recognize the rhythm of each character.
- Use the Koch method - Build up gradually for best results.
- Start slower - Use slower effective speed and increase as you improve.
- Trust your ears - Don't look at the answer before responding!
- 73 and good luck with your CW journey!
